Kollengode is a small hamlet in the District of Palakkad in Kerala known for its lush green large stretch of paddy fields. It is one of the very few places in Kerala to have such large stretch of paddy fields. Kollengode is a noteworthy place as far as agriculture in Kerala is concerned.
With very few land cover left for agriculture, the densely populated Kerala is scant of agricultural land. The extent of land spread under agriculture in Kollengode is definitely a boon to Kerala, contributing in gaining the sobriquet for the Palakkad District as the granary of Kerala. For Adventure sports lovers, trekking is definitely an option in Kollengode. The Nelliampathy hills, Seethakundu and Govindamalai are ideal spots for trekking.
Kollengode is also famous for personalities like Sashi Tharoor, who is a Congress MP and hails from this place, Carnatic musician KV Narayanaswamy and late Chenda artists Kachamkuruichi Eacha Marar and Annan Marar also hail from this village.
How to Reach
The nearest Airport is the Coimbatore International Airport which is 60 kms from Palakkad or Kozhikode International Airport which is 115 kms away. The nearest railway Station is Palakkad at 19 kms from here with good connectivity with most major towns of the State and the country. Buses are aplenty to Kollengode from Palakkad.
The place is usually hot and humid a climate akin to the one in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. During summer between March and May, the maximum temperature maintains between 34 and 38°C and the minimum averages at around 25°C. During the rest of the season the max temperatures hovers around 28°C between June to October and the min temperature maintains between 21-25°C.
